New York City Resiliency

Many New Yorkers felt the effects of Hurricane Sandy.  In order to cope with a changing climate, a basic understanding of building infrastructure is necessary.  The program will introduce the basics of resiliency including:

  • Introduction to climate change
  • LEED certified buildings
  • Weatherization of buildings
  • Efficient practices in windows and doors
  • Healthy living environment through sustainability training.

 Building Operations & Maintenance

The program provides participants the opportunity to learn about the day-to-day operations of buildings.  Training is provided in the classroom as well as with hands-on opportunities through our community partners.  The program teaches the essential skills required for a career in building operations & maintenance, and includes the following:

  • Exterior building site maintenance programs
  • Water and energy use
  • Environmentally preferred products and practices for cleaning and alterations
  • Sustainable purchasing policies
  • Waste stream management
